He helped relay messages to us so that we knew what to do. She was my brother's (Isaac Long) teacher when he was in school and was my teacher when I was a Peer Mentor. The care she shows for her students goes unmatched. She works after hours and on the weekends with events to ensure that her current and past students are able to meet goals and be included in community events while demonstrating inclusion for all people. She truly cares about the children she drives to and from school. This is Darius' last year to ride her bus and he is so sad about it because he cares for Karen. He already liked math, but she has pushed him to achieve more, all the while helping him to understand and love the process. I also found out she gives out candy along the way (full -size candy bars even!) so she definitely knows what motivates middle schoolers! Lol! She enjoys what she does and the kids just love her! At the beginning of the year Zekara didn't want to go to school and would have total meltdowns. After a month or so working on it Zekara now successfully go to school and loves Mr Lancaster. He provided her a safe place and made her feel comfortable in her self which speaks volumes. She has had many great teachers but he helped her through one of her toughest times. He remained patient, while still challenging her and pushing her to be her best. He helps her keep a smile too. Also she I have seen her grow in her academic and social maturity and confidence. Thank you Mr Lancaster. She has a true love and compassion for teaching that reflects on her students! My son still talks about her to this day and talks about some things she taught him to remember in math, and spelling. On the days he’s just not feeling himself she stays with him and does everything in her power to put a smile on his face. One morning about two months ago he was having an extra hard day. When he got inside the school he got overwhelmed and started crying and laid down on the floor in the middle of passing students, without thinking twice or worrying if she was going to get stepped on Mrs. Bean laid right down on the floor next to him until he felt okay.
