The Indiana Association of School Principals’ (IASP) Indiana Academic All-Star’s program, now in its 36th year, is open to all high schools accredited by the Indiana Department of Education. Each high school nominated one senior for consideration as an Academic All-Star.

The committee selected the state winners based on the following criteria:

  • Strength of transcript. (Focus on percentages of AP, Dual Credit, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced College Project classes taken.)
  • GPA and ACT/SAT college entrance exam scores.
  • Extracurricular activities related to academics.
  • Non-Academic extracurricular activities.
  • Commitment to Leadership, Community service, and other activities.

For the selection process, the state was divided into five regions. Within each region, nominees were divided into two enrollment classes: Class 1 consisted of schools with enrollments of more than 611 students; Class 2 consisted of schools with enrollments up to and including 611. A committee of current and retired principals, guidance counselors, university staff, and IASP representatives from across the state selected the 50 Regional Academic All-Stars and 40 Indiana Academic All-Stars from a pool of 277 nominees.

Regan has a stellar GPA and standardized test scores. She also has a number of achievements and activities that were noted by the selection committee:

Her college plans are to attend Northwestern University to be an Environmental Engineer. Her parents are Jennifer and Brad Brouwer.

As an Academic All-State selection, Regan wrote about her most influential educator. That individual was Edgewood Middle School science teacher and Women’s Cross Country Coach, Mr. Jason Fleming. The Indiana Association of School Principals and Warsaw Community Schools salute Mr. Fleming for being identified as Regan’s most influential educator!
