WARSAW, IN - The Warsaw Community Schools (WCS) Board of Trustees has been recognized with an Exemplary Governance Award (EGA) for calendar year 2024 by the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA). This distinction highlights the WCS board’s ongoing commitment to student success, professional learning and effective leadership.

Warsaw was one of only 124 school boards across Indiana to receive this honor in 2024.

The EGA program recognizes school boards annually across four levels of distinction. Awards are based on points earned through participation in ISBA seminars, workshops, and conferences, as well as meeting criteria such as hosting a board retreat with an outside facilitator and setting strategic goals to elevate student outcomes.

“On behalf of ISBA, I would like to commend this most exceptional group of school boards and school board members,” said ISBA Executive Director Terry Spradlin. “School boards perform a vital public service for their communities, and board members who actively participate in professional learning are better equipped to govern effectively and meet the needs of students.”

In addition to the board-level recognition, several WCS board members achieved new levels of individual EGA status:

Matt Deuel – Commendable

Denny Duncan – Commendable

Brad Johnson – Exemplary

Other WCS board members with existing exemplary governance achievements include:

Randy Polston – Advanced

Heather Reichenbach – Exemplary

WCS Board President Heather Reichenbach reflected on the recognition,“This EGA board recognition reflects our board’s collective commitment to continuously learning best practices in governance and school leadership for the benefit of all WCS students, staff and our community. Our board proudly accepts this award, along with numerous individual awards, in recognition of exemplary governance.”

WCS Superintendent, Dr. David Hoffert stated, “Warsaw Community Schools is grateful for the commitment and dedication of our board members. They are a great example of continued advancement in obtaining professional development and continued learning within their board role. Their public service to our schools and community is a valued part of our culture.”

ISBA provides professional learning opportunities throughout the year on legislative advocacy, policy, school law, and board leadership to support effective school governance. To view the full list of 2024 EGA award recipients, visit: https://www.isba-ind.org/ega.html
