Congratulations to Olivia Ganser, Lakeview Middle School eighth grade student for advancing to the National History Day National Contest in June, 2024. The theme for the 2024 National History Day contest is Turning Points in History. NHD is a non-profit organization which seeks to improve the teaching and learning of history. The National History Day Contest was established in 1974 and currently engages more than half a million students in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. Students present their research as a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website. Projects compete first at the local and affiliate levels, where the top entries are invited to the National Contest. In February 2024, Lakeview Middle School produced two state finalist projects coached by District Media Services Coordinator Amanda Scroggs. Alexander Christopher and Olivia Ganser, both eighth-grade students at Lakeview Middle School represented Warsaw Community Schools. On Saturday, April 20th, Olivia Ganser advanced at the 2024 National History Day (NHD) Contest held at Marian University in Indianapolis. Olivia advanced with a project in the junior, individual documentary category titled “Turning a Death Sentence into a New Opportunity One Name at a Time.” When asked about this project, Olivia responded, “I feel like NHD, the gateway to history, was also the gateway to discovering more about myself and the future I have planned ahead. My goal is to study psychology so diving deep into what motivated Oskar Schindler to save others really was a case study in human psychology.” Congratulations to Olivia Ganser and best wishes as she competes in the NHD National Contest held at the University of Maryland at College Park on June 10 and June 11. Warsaw Community Schools would like to thank all teachers, coaches, judges, parents, and students who engaged in this independent learning challenge with NHD. ### Photo Provided: Oliva Ganser, Grade 8 Lakeview Middle School

Mrs. Boggs and Mrs. Wood received an anonymous gift of flowers and chocolate from a tiger family this week. Lakeview has the best parents! On top of this example of generosity, our PTO is very active. They not only provide activities for the students, but they also regularly treat the staff with snacks in the lounge and encouraging notes. From flowers and chocolate to snacks and emails the staff wants to let our parents know that we appreciate you all! #ExperienceLakeview #Experiencewcs

A community & global partnership opportunity has been embraced by Lakeview students who have risen to the challenge - donating boxes of books from their homes to partner with a local organization, Blue River Digital, for a global cause. Through givingbasics.org, students learned that Malawi is ranked as one of the poorest countries in Africa. Their main language is English, which makes the offer of books easy. Giving Basics is a new nonprofit started by Weston and Amy Sigler in Columbia City, Indiana. They have worked in Africa for over 23 years, and have served in Malawi for the last 5. Giving Basics hopes to fill a container with library supplies including tables, whiteboards, and as many books as possible. Books that are needed: Early Reader books k-3rd grade level. English as a second language booksGrammar and Creative writing textbooksGeography booksWorld History booksNational Geographic magazinesAnimal Science booksFull-color Biology / Science / Health books/ Physics and ChemistryMath textbooks from any grade levelSelf Help books: gardening, agriculture, electricity, plumbing, windmill, animal farming, car maintenance, Biblical resources of any kind. Picture Bibles, Study BiblesNewer Encyclopedia sets. Thanks to all who have contributed toward filling a container with books. Please reach out to Amanda Scroggs at Lakeview Library or to Amy Sigler at Blue River Digital if you would like to donate books. #ExperienceLakeview #ExperienceWCS
