The Lincoln Lions started a new tradition, Lincoln's First Annual World Read Aloud Day! Teachers and staff organized an event to spark the love of reading. This day was filled with author visits, guest readers, literacy activities, dressing up as your favorite book character, and a bookmark contest.

Prior to this event, local community members donated books to help students explore different genres. Through this generous donation, grade levels were matched with the authors of these books. Over the last two weeks, students examined the author's work and generated discussion questions to ask their authors! We would like to thank the authors, Laura Zimmermann, Lindsay Currie, E.E (Erin) Dowd, Claire Lordon, Tiffany Stone, Jonathan Roth, and Karen Kane for giving their time to speak with our Lions.

On top of author visits, we had several guest readers throughout the building! Thank you to all who took the time out of their day to come to celebrate with their Lions. Those guest readers consisted of parents, community members, district staff, and high school athletes.

A special thank you to Dani Barkey, Amanda Scroggs, Kendra Kline, Neena Burgher, Susan Potter, Cindy Coppes, Becky Brodhead, Roger Grossman, Mrs. Viet, Julia Porter, Carol Allebach, Lauren Miller, and Margreta Schutz. As well as Zoe Bergan, Ava Egolf, Abbey Peterson, Brooke Winchester, Leila Knepp, Will Bergen, Andrew Potter, Luke Yeager, Luke Bricker, Andrew Sullivan, Jaxsen Gould, Viviana Zambrano!

You can't have a good book without a bookmark! Students had the opportunity to create bookmarks to use throughout the day. However, they came together as a grade level to determine the best and each student from that grade level would get a copy of the winning design. This was a challenging task because all students did a great job!

Bookmark Contest Winners: Kenzi H. (Kindergarten), Samantha C. (First Grade), Gemma P. (Second Grade), Scarlet S. (Third Grade), Emma G. (Fourth Grade), Haylee F. (Fifth Grade), and Anya P. (Sixth Grade).

This day was a success and we couldn't have done it without Mrs. Stouder leading the charge with the help of her World Read Aloud team, Mrs. Kilgore, Miss. Nolander,  Mrs. Jacko,  Mrs. Lakics, Miss. Lade,  Miss. Perdew,  and Miss. Reed! We are looking forward to seeing what next year will bring and sparking the love of reading once again.
