Mrs. Winn

Our spotlight focuses on Mrs. Lena Winn, who stepped into the role of EL Teacher at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year.

Mrs. Winn was born and raised in a small town in Russia. She graduated from high school and then went to college in Vladimir, where she earned a Bachelors in Linguistics and Foreign Language Education and a Masters in Education. While in college, she began working as an interpreter for a non-profit organization, Children’s HopeChest, based in Colorado Springs. After graduating, she moved to Colorado to work for that organization in their headquarters. This is where she met her husband-to-be, Greg. After getting married, they moved to Winona Lake. The Winns have been married for thirteen years and have three children: Annika (9), Leo (7), and Will (3).

When asked why she is passionate about students and education, Mrs. Winn replied, "I'm an EL student myself, having learned English in high school and later in college, so it is my passion to lead my students in acquiring academic English."

Mrs. Winn and her family love spending time on the lake, biking around Winona Lake, and exploring the local parks and shops. She said, "If I could spend an entire day reading or writing, with a workout in between, I would be as happy as a clam."

We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Winn at Jefferson with her loving and dedicated heart for our EL learners!
