Title I School Choice and Free Tutoring Information PDF Print E-mail

Federal law requires that we share with you the results of our school corporation schools’ progress in meeting the No Child Left Behind adequate yearly progress (AYP) objectives.  Corporations and schools are evaluated annually in three areas: test participation, attendance, and achievement levels in English/language arts and mathematics. Corporations and/or schools that miss any of the objectives for two consecutive years or more are labeled and identified for improvement.

Based on state ISTEP+ test results, Leesburg Elementary School has been identified for improvement since it has not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for three years. This identification means that the school must offer one of these two options:

School Choice or SES (Free Tutoring). To learn more about these options, please refer to the attachments at the bottom of this letter.

School Choice: Leesburg Elementary School was identified for improvement; therefore parents with students in this building have the choice to send their students to Washington Elementary School or Eisenhower Elementary School for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. A letter explaining School Choice and the Transfer Request Form were mailed to each family with students at Leesburg Elementary School. Families choosing this option needed to fill out the Transfer Request Form and have it returned to Leesburg Elementary School by Wednesday, September 28th, 2011. For more information please see the related attachments.

SES (Free Tutoring): Students attending Leesburg Elementary School during the 2011-2012 school year, who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch AND did not pass the English/language arts or mathematics portion of the ISTEP+ (or other measure of academic success) will be offered SES free tutoring.

For the 2011-2012 school year, Leesburg Elementary School has five providers for the district. Information has been mailed to the families of the students at Leesburg Elementary School who qualify for SES free tutoring. For more information please see the related attachments.
