At our Librarian / Digital Learning Specialist PLC meeting this morning at the Lincoln Library, we shared many Maker ideas and activities that we are using in our Makerspaces in our libraries.  We also shared our lesson plans on how to teach students to identify good Internet resource using our GUARDS system.  Feel free to stop by any of our libraries to see what we have learned!

Today in the library at Washington STEM the students were learning about the location of different resources.  The students took part in a scavenger hunt where they had to locate biographies, nonfiction books, fiction books, and easy books.  They worked on identifying books by their call number and placing them in the correct location in the library.
The elementary students in Mrs. Lewis's class were able to meet with a special guest during their library time today.  Dr. Hoffert stopped by to share the book, My Brother is a Runner, with the students.  Over the last month the students have been learning about perseverance and the story that Dr. Hoffert read focused on this theme.  The students learned about what it means to be a marathon runner and the skills and drive it takes.
Yesterday at Edgewood Middle School in the new Learning Commons students got to take part in an electronics maker night.  The students were able to create light up cards and play with Chibitronics, snap circuits, Makey Makey, and Little Bits.  Each month new makerspace activities will be offered.  Stop by and check it out!
This week the first grade students have been reading, researching, and learning about snowflakes.  The Digital Learning Specialist, Mrs. Watters, had the students experiment with creating snowflakes in the lab as well as having them make their own snowflakes in the library's MakerSpace.

Our Goal

The main goal of the Library Services program for Warsaw Community Schools is to support our district's mission of inspiring and equipping all students to continuously acquire and apply knowledge and skills while pursuing their dreams and enriching the lives of others. We help students achieve this mission by teaching them strong information literacy skills that enable our students to identify, evaluate, apply, and ethically use a wide variety of electronic and print information sources to meet their knowledge needs.
